Defy the Effects of Aging
Many women and men want to look younger well into our golden years and are very concerned with facial aging. After all, our face is what most people see and forms the first impression on the people we meet so we want it to look as good as it can. Luckily, there are some things you can do to help prevent your face from showing the tell tale signs of time.
The most important thing you can do to keep your face looking younger is to live a healthier lifestyle. Your skin is the larges organ of your body and shows the effects of poor health first. Smoking, eating all the wrong foods, exposure to the sun and stress can all add up to those little lines on your face know as wrinkles. By eating more fruits and vegetables that are high in antioxidants and anti inflammatory properties will help in reducing the damage to your skin and will help keep down the wrinkles. Plus they will help with your overall health and keep you feeling great which is sure to put a smile on your face.
As the baby boomers have discovered, early and prolonged exposure to the sun is a major contributor to facial aging, in fact about 90% of your wrinkles come from sun damage. In addition to the wrinkles, sun damage can cause hyper pigmentation or dark spots on your face which make you look older. The sun damage can also increase your risk to skin cancer and may not show up for years. It is best to use a sun block on your face and hands at all times, even if you won’t be directly laying in the sun. Wear hats to cover your face, and apply the sunscreen to the tops and back of your ears. This is a common spot to forget, yet it gets the most exposure, especially if you sport short hair.
Water is a key element in every cell in our body and drinking enough of it can help slow down facial aging. Getting enough plain water will help keep your skin hydrated and plumper looking as well as aid in the cellular processes of your body. But how much is enough? Experts say to get between 4 and 8 – 8 ounce glasses a day. Drinking more water also helps with weigh control and helps flush out toxins that build up in our body. So instead of reaching for the cola, grab a glass of water instead. Add a little fresh lemon for an extra twist. Everyone is different so you’ll have to experiment to see what level you feel comfortable with, the key is to start drinking more of it if you aren’t already.
Free radicals are created by our body during it’s normal process, but unfortunately they are a major contributor to aging and disease. You can counter their effects with antioxidants like those found in fruits and vegetables. Blueberries and Acai berry fruit are high in anti oxidants. You can even apply fruit juices and other things that are high in antioxidants (like green tea, for example) directly to your skin. Supplementing your diet with vitamins, minerals and anti oxidants can help, especially if your diet is less than perfect.
Getting enough sleep, as well as the position you sleep in is also important for a youthful looking face. Your body repairs itself during sleep, and not getting enough shows on your face first. If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, special sleep hormones such as Melatonin may help. Also avoid caffeine later in the afternoon as well as alcohol. Turn the TV off and try reading before you go to sleep. Keep a journal and write down everything that needs to get done the next day. By putting it down in the journal, it will also get it off your mind. In the event that your partner snores, try wearing ear plugs. I recommend Hearos brand. They are soft and comfortable and I can sleep through my husbands snoring.
There are special products now that can reduce your wrinkles and your age spots leaving a younger looking you and defy the effects of aging. Revitol uses Argireline and a Proprietary Blend of Matrixyl, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Wheat Gluten and Ceratonia siliqua, Macrocystis pyrifera, Edelweis Extract, Skin Tightener ST, Pentacare NA to help make your skin look years younger. There are many more products that have a definite improvement on your skin.
If you want to take even more drastic steps to fight facial aging, you might consider things like Botox and topical applications such as Revitol, Retin-A as well as laser therapy or microdermabrasion. All these things, along with a good skin care routine can go a long way to keeping your face looking youthful and defy the effects of aging.
